Introduction to Grooming
Service Description
By the end of the course, Guardians will have the knowledge to continue the desensitisation and grooming process with their puppies to help grooming and co-operative care be as stress-free as possible. Introduction to consent-based training and giving their dogs true agency in their own welfare. They will also learn about the importance of advocating for their dogs and how to visit places such as vets in a positive manner. Dogs should be better set up to visit grooming facilities and vet practices or even have their guardian do it at home. Skills taught: ∙Chin rest ∙Introducing tools (nail clippers, brush, comb, etc.) ∙Hand targeting ∙Scratch board ∙Consent based protocols (and no choice contingencies) ∙Desensitising hairdryers and baths ∙Desensitising gear ∙Working with veterinarian/grooming professionals
